While\nwe all practice social distancing, it\u2019s inevitable you\u2019ll eventually start to\nfeel a little stir-crazy being home all the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s there to do while stuck indoors? Plenty! Here are\nsome suggestions to help make your time in quarantine interesting while we work\nto flatten the curve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Keep moving<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Staying physically active is the best way to keep your mood\nup. While you can still go outside for walks or jogs, be sure to maintain the\nsuggested 6-ft distance between other people. There are also plenty of ways to\nsafely workout at home thanks to a variety of apps, YouTube channels, and\nsimply at-home exercise routines. Check with your gym or fitness studio to see\nif they offer virtual classes you can watch from home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Keep kids educated and entertained<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With schools closed and social distancing encouraged, many\nparents are suddenly faced with the challenge of keeping their kids entertained\nwhile at home for the foreseeable future. Some kids may have assigned\nschoolwork to work on while others may not. You can start teaching your kids\nvaluable life skills during this time as well!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the best things to do is maintain some kind of schedule. Have kids keep their regular sleep schedules and mealtimes. Create some structure during the day for activities. You don\u2019t have to schedule every hour, but create sections of time for specific schoolwork\/enrichment activities and entertainment. Work with your kids to create a daily plan so everyone is invested and excited to participate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.khanacademy.org\/\">Khan\nAcademy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbslearningmedia.org\/student\/#.XnPb3YhKhaQ\">PBS\nLearning<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/classroommagazines.scholastic.com\/support\/learnathome.html\">Scholastic\nLearn<\/a> at Home for some educational options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Watch the sea otters at Monterey Bay Aquarium<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The aquarium is closed to the public but you can still visit\nthe animals through their livestreams. The livestreams are available daily from\n7AM to 7PM PST through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montereybayaquarium.org\/animals\/live-cams\">aquarium\u2019s website<\/a>,\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/montereybayaquarium\/\">Facebook page<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/MontereyBayAquarium\">YouTube channel<\/a>.\nOther California institutions featuring webcams include the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oaklandzoo.org\/webcams\">Oakland Zoo<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calacademy.org\/learn-explore\/animal-webcams\">California\nAcademy of Sciences<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Enjoy museums and operas digitally <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Experience some of the best museums in the world from the comfort of your home. Museums are stepping up to offer virtual access to some of their exhibits online. Here\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelandleisure.com\/attractions\/museums-galleries\/museums-with-virtual-tours\">good list<\/a> to get started on your virtual adventures. Want a little more culture? New York\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metopera.org\/\">Metropolitan Opera<\/a> is streaming encore performances of some of their most famous shows at 7:30 PM EST on their homepage. Shows will be available for 20 hours. Check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metopera.org\/user-information\/nightly-met-opera-streams\/\">full schedule here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Check-in on family and friends<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Use technology to stay connected with family and friends. Whether it\u2019s through phone calls, text messages, or even video calls, reaching out to loved ones will help keep your mental state in a good place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Enjoy the downtime<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re normally busy, it\u2019s okay to use this time to relax\nand not do anything productive! Slowing down to take care of yourself is\nimportant. Don\u2019t feel like you have to make productive use of your time in\nquarantine if what you really need is to chill. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These ideas will help keep cabin fever at bay as we navigate\nthis time of great concern and uncertainty. It\u2019s important to remember we\u2019re\nall being asked to adjust our normal routines and way of life for the greater\ngood of the communities we live in and to protect the most vulnerable within\nthem.
