The hotter\nweather comes at a price as we crank up the air conditioning to get a break\nfrom the heat. While high electric bills are expected between June and\nSeptember, it doesn\u2019t have to be the rule!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s how you can save energy (and some cash) while still\nbeing comfortable during the warm summer months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Be smart with the thermostat<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Having the air conditioner on full blast may feel great,\nespecially after coming in from the heat, but you probably won\u2019t like it once\nthe bill arrives. PG&amp;E recommends setting your thermostat to 78 degrees\nwhen you\u2019re at home and even higher overnight or when you\u2019re away. When it\u2019s\ntime to turn on your air conditioning, avoid the temptation to crank the\ntemperature to something cooler than usual. This won\u2019t cool your home any\nfaster but can make your usage (and bill) skyrocket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Keep it breezy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of relying heavily on your air conditioner, opening\nthe windows and using fans can be effective at keeping your home cool. Ceiling\nfans are great for cooling entire rooms and portable fans can work with your\nair conditioner to circulate the cooler air throughout your home. While you\nwant to keep your windows and blinds closed during the hottest parts of the\nday, opening them during the cooler evening hours can invite the cooler air\ninside. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stay on the lower floors<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Heat rises so if you have a two-story home, the upstairs\nportion will usually be warmer than the first floor. To beat the heat, stay\ndownstairs as much as possible during the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Avoid adding heat to your home<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes we\u2019re guilty of making our homes warmer. Control\nheat buildup during the day by not running large appliances like the oven,\ndishwasher, or even the washer and dryer during the day. Save those chores for\nlater when the temperature drops. Instead of sweating over the stove, use a\nmore energy-efficient appliance like the microwave, air fryer, or Instant pot,\ncook outside, or use this as an excuse to get take out from your favorite\nrestaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Think strategically when it comes to washing. Wait to run\nthe dishwasher is full before running (same goes for the laundry) and let the\ndishes air dry. When it comes to doing the laundry, use cold water to wash your\nclothes and consider letting your clothes air dry. If you\u2019d prefer, wait until\nthe evening to run the dryer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did you know your lighting may be making your room warmer? 90% of\nthe energy incandescent bulbs use is given off as heat, which can raise the\ntemperature in your room! Switch these inefficient bulbs for more efficient CFL\nor LED bulbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Turn it off<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re not using something, turn it off.
